racing birds

chinnychinchin_pigeonnecklace

Sydney based designers, Ruth Bellotti and Adrian Elys are the brains trust behind chinny chin chin. Wandering through their website is like finding a rusted tin box in the backyard that is full of treasures. There is a range of porcelain pendants, firebombed cars, stickers for unworthy causes and home brand tight ass greeting cards.

But the one thing that did catch my eye was the homing pigeon ring necklace. What a delight to have your very own numbered piece of pigeon racing history; stung up on a pretty sterling silver balled necklace! Complete with your order is a image of the pigeon who once proudly wore the ring and an individual profile so can feel at one with your new charm. Each piece will set you back a cool $49.95 plus postage.

mca exhibition: i walk the line

richard_lewer

Whilst recently in Sydney, I took some time to check out a current MCA exhibition: I Walk The Line – New Australian drawing. This collection of mostly young Australian artists  brings together some amazing images. As you enter the exhibition space you are face to face with Richard Lewer’s 7 metre, incredibly bold piece! The image above will give you an idea of the scale of this drawing. At the base of the drawing were various spent pieces of  pencil and charcoal.

The work of Laith McGregor (pictured left: Untitled, 2008), was so detailed. Utilising nothing more than biro on paper, I could have stared at his mirrored drawings for hours. His second drawing  “Hex 2008″ which depicts six bearded men each with their own story to tell, truly amazing.

Dorota Mytych‘s work was stunning with ant like figures making up the greater image. I was also in awe of the news-roll style work of Locust Jones, Everyday Atrocities which curved around the entire room. There was so much depth in this drawing that it would literally take you months to discover all that us has to offer.

If you are in Sydney do take the time to get along to see this one. There are some amazing drawings on show! The show is running from 17 March – 24 May 2009 at the MCA in Sydney. Admission is FREE.
